We are super excited to see students in the library again! After completing inventory, accounting for each of our more than 12,000 items, we worked on seeing all classes for an orientation session and the first of MANY opportunities throughout the year to check out great books! On our first day, we saw 6 classes and checked out 313 books and magazines! What a great start to the year!
Library Hours for 2011-2012
This year, Mrs. Lott will be at Riverdale on Mondays, Tuesdays, and every other Wednesdays. We are very grateful that Miss Bonnie is able to be in the library each day so that the library can remain open during most school hours! Please feel free to stop in and visit us during out open hours:
Mondays and Tuesdays—7:45-11:00 and 12:00-2:45
Wednesdays—8:00-11:00 and 12:00-1:15
Wednesdays—8:00-11:00 and 12:00-1:15
Thursdays and Fridays—8:00-11:00 and 12:00-1:30
iPad 2’s are Here!
We are pleased to announce our first 10 iPads in the library! iPads are a high interest, 21st Century tool for engaging learners of all levels and we are excited to begin using them with students at Riverdale. At the present time, teachers are allowed to check out a set of 5 iPads to address small group instruction in the classroom.
Thank you, TumbleBook Readers!
A few dedicated students logged on to TumbleBooks over the summer and read, read, read! Thanks to an overwhelming positive response to this interactive database of e-books, we will continue to subscribe to TumbleBooks this school year! A big thanks goes out to: Jessica Vieth, Anthony Vieth, Hnubcis Moua, Jalyne Denton, and Anna Beltran for their summer reading! They have received prizes for their efforts!
Library Volunteers
We would love to have volunteers in the library this year, as we always appreciate help with shelving books and often have other tasks that we can ask for assistance with. We may also be looking for volunteers to read to groups of students on a regular basis this year. Due to district security measures in keeping our students safe, we now require volunteers to fill out an application packet to volunteer in the building. If you are interested in being a library volunteer, please stop by the office and pick up a packet to begin the process! J
Book Fair in October!
Once again, we will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair during the week of Fall Conferences in October! This is a great time to connect students with interesting, affordable titles and support our library as well. Look for advertising around the building in late September for book fair hours!
