Off and Running!

We are well into September now, and in the Riverdale Library we are off and running!  We have been busy with teaching children how to select "just right" or "good fit" books from the library, as well as using our Destiny Quest Catalog to find the materials they need in the library.  We have our first few projects started for the year!  They include: Zoo Animal Research with Mrs. Walp's Class (We will teach the students how to create a Glog as their final product!), Caldecott Illustrator Research with Mr. Freeman's Class and Mrs. Jennings, and a Kidspiration Project using student names with first graders.  We LOVE working with students to impact their learning in 21st Century ways!  That is why we are here!

We are also busy meeting with classes to circulate books on a regular basis.  On average in August, we checked out 216 books per day!  We are looking forward to analyzing the September statistics to see a summary of our work with teachers and students.

Looking ahead, we will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from October 8th-15th.  This year's theme celebrates our heros...from SuperHeros to everyday heros in our lives, we are excited to explore this theme!  Students will have the opportunity to preview the book fair with their classes on Thursday, October 7th or Friday, October 8th.  Teachers will also be invited to preview the books on Friday Morning before school.  They will also get to enjoy a bite of breakfast this morning--compliments of a grant from our WONDERFUL PTO Members!!!

Book Fair Hours are as follows:
  • Monday, October 11-->7:30-2:40
  • Tuesday, October 12-->7:30-2:30
    • Special Grandparent Event from 2:30-4:00!!!  Kids, invite your Grandparents to visit the book fair with you--they'll receive a "Grand" treat!  No need to RSVP for this event, just stop in and see us.  We'd LOVE to see the "grand" faces who are indeed heros in their grandchildrens' lives!
  • Wednesday, October 13-->7:30-1:30
    • Pumpkin Run is on this day!
  • Thursday, October 14-->8:00-4:00 and 5:00-8:00
    • Parent Teacher Conferences are on this day.

After preview day, students who have money to spend are welcome in the library throughout the day with their teacher's permission.  (On a side note, students will be able to return library books during the book fair, however, we will not be checking out new books during this special event.) We will be open a few minutes before and after school as well.

We welcome parent volunteer help anytime in the library, but especially during book fair time!  If you are interested in helping us out, please stop in, call, or e-mail us!  720.972.5588 or dana.r.lott@adams12.org  We'd love to have your help!

The money we raise with this event will help pay for an incredible visit from a nationally known author at the end of January, as well as books for the library for all to enjoy!  We will be having contests and fun prizes throughout Book Fair Week to get our Riverdale students excited about reading.  Look for more information to come home as the BIG event gets closer!

As ALWAYS, thank you for your support of the Riverdale Library!
