Wright Farms Library Opening a Success!

The new Wright Farms branch of the Anythink Libraries (formerly Rangeview Library District) opened on Saturday, July 10th! It is located off of 120th and Holly and is a beautiful addition to the community! In its first week of operations, 2,500 library cards were issued and 30,000 items were checked out! Opening day festivities were fabulous! Each library patron received a new bag to tote books back and forth with bookmarks and pencils included. There was a string quartet playing to set a fun mood for the grand opening. The children could participate in a flag making activity, Madcap Theater did an Improv act on the Freedom of Speech, and the day ended with a concert on the main lawn. Other activities happened throughout the afternoon after the ribbon cutting at 1:30 as well.

A few stats on the new library:
* size of building-45,000 square feet
* cost of construction-$15,700,000
* new items purchased for this library-63,000
* parking lot spaces-148

If you haven't visited this wonderful new community resource, please plan to soon! It is amazing! If you need any information on the new library, the Riverdale Library staff would be happy to help! :)

Riverdale Elementary Receives a Grant!

In the Spring of 2010, The Adams 12 Education Foundation graciously awarded Riverdale Elementary with a technology grant that will provide 9 STAR Carts to the building, enabling us to have one in each K-5 classroom (plus a few others in the building)! A STAR Cart consists of a Dell Latitude Netbook computer, an LCD Projector, document camera, and a speaker on a moveable cart. This set up enables teachers to access immeasurable amounts of presentation features to their teaching on a daily basis. It is our hope that students will be able to interact with the technology tools in the classrooms regularly as well. We are very grateful for this grant and the STAR Carts will be utilized each day in the building.

Mrs. Lott and Ms. Zoeller as well as her second grade class were featured in a short article about this grant in the May Edition of the Five Star Journal (page 3). The photo seen here is of Deb Haviland, Director of the Education Foundation, Mr. Terrill, Mrs. Lott, David Bonnsett, Director of IT, and Julie Bowline, Director of IT and Library Services. A few tech saavy fifth graders are also in the snapshot.
