Library Activities
The past couple of months have been fun in the library! We have enjoyed spreading the word about out new online e-book subscription to TumbleBooks with our teachers and students! You can log in from home easily to take advantage of this wonderful database of books and activities! Here’s how!
Go to the Riverdale Homepage at: http://www.riverdale.adams12.org/
--> Click on “Library” on the left hand side --> scroll down and click on “TumbleBooks!”
Once you get here, just log in with our school username: riverdale and password: raccoon (all lowercase) You can then explore the hundreds of books and games available! Have fun!
We have also been busy with teaching fifth and fourth graders how to write and post fabulous book reviews on our library catalog called Destiny! What a terrific way for students to offer up their writing for an authentic audience! We have many wonderful reviews posted—check out the Destiny Quest catalog through the Library Homepage as well! These are just a couple of the amazing learning that happens in the Riverdale Library on a daily basis. As always, you are welcome to stop by and see us! We LOVE visitors!
Speaking of visitors, we have recently enjoyed the company of a couple of Colorado Authors! Justin Mattot was here on January 25th to do 2 large group assemblies for our K-5 students as well as writer’s workshops for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. We really enjoyed his lively presentations. We will also host David Kronk on February 7th when he will visit with Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders for grade level writing workshops. He is sure to please our youngest readers and writers. These visits are paid for through our book fair profits (THANKS RIVERDALE COMMUNITY!!!) and fit into our school improvement goal of supporting writing!
Thanks to our AMAZING Volunteers!
We couldn’t have a great library without our volunteers who stop in each week to shelve books and help us out with other tasks! Christin Herzing, Felicia Losli, and Debbie Vieth all have helped us out recently. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We appreciate your commitment to our students. If you are interested in helping us out, please contact Mrs. Lott at dana.r.lott@adams12.org or call the library at 720.972.5588.

Our 5th Grade Battle of the Books (BOB) group is in full swing! We are working on reading at least 5 of the 10 selected titles to be prepared for the district battle at the end of April. Recently we have met the Rocky Mountain Elementary BOB group via Skype during our meetings to practice! We’ve designed our own tee-shirts using Wordle! Look for us wearing them on meeting days! Ms. Dolan and Mrs. Lott are proud of the extra effort these dynamic 5th graders are showing!
Colorado Childrens’ Book Award
CCBA voting will take place near the end of February to determine the best picture book and the best junior novel as determined by the kids across Colorado! To be able to vote, the students need to have read or heard at least 3 of the 20 selected titles. These are all available in the Riverdale Library!
